'Three Spotlights' by Luigi Pagano
Three spotlights
One, brilliantly steadfast;
the others, flickering.
On the verge of extinction,
they hang on a thread
for their survival.
Each sees the other
as a rival
in a titanic struggle
that will decide
if, in the end,
they are cast aside.
The shining light
doesn’t really care
about their plight
and is tired of their
interminable lament.
(It’s hard having to deal
with a faulty filament.)
He dismisses with contempt
the fading pair
and looks forward
to the arrival
of replacement.

You have a very distinctive way with words, Luigi. A fine example of your work. Thank you for sharing this poem on Parapraxis.

As much as I enjoyed the subject of the poem I also admire the rhyme pattern – another good one Luigi
