Nativity

2 min read
Her full mothers breast now lent to his eager ruby face.

Let us hail this most beauteous morn,

for on this day, so long ago

our Saviour, Jesus Christ was born.

We feel his new-born light,

that came to cancel our long night.

Out of darkness dawns the day,

to where the child now lay,

and from whose miraculous birth,

Heaven came down to Earth.

And all Hail the Blessed Virgin,

so full now of God’s Grace;

when angel and maid had met,

the Word in her was manifest,

without the least disgrace.

Now holding close her baby and

tucking his blanket fold,

her full mothers breast now lent

to his eager ruby face.

So, Joy to the World, as we praise,

Heaven and Earth are in accord;

since God did speak one word,

and that Word is newly born in

mortal flesh in this barn.

As the child in his cradle sleeps,

angels and shepherds come

in wonder – to worship and see

the wonder of eternity

  1. Wonderful poem about the birth of Jesus Christ… The flow is very interesting and it gives the reader ability to read more and more.

  2. Thank you Kiula for your comments. It was my try on a traditional form for the Christian meaning of Christmas. It is now
    interesting, living in the UK, in a post Christian society, where we find more respect for the birth of Jesus, from our Muslim fellow citizens, than from the majority.

  3. Incredible poem Doug, such a holy thing you have written about. The birth of Jesus was indeed the rise of the sun after the dark night. May God bless us all. Beautiful writing doug, your writing is an offering to the saviour.

  4. Thank you Mike, for your comments. The irony (for me), is that my Muslim neighbours share more in that birth, than the majority of our population – they being too busy buying, eating, and drinking at ‘Xmas’
