I’m now retired having previously worked in local government . With my wife (and Springer Spaniel) we live in a village between Cambridge and St Ives. Apart from writing I enjoy cooking, reading, walking, and DIY. My writing is influenced by my travels and life abroad, and my involvement in different religions – Christian and Buddhist, plus an interest in history and current affairs. My poetry and prose reflects my interests and life experience and is still in the process of developing into what I hope may be of interest to the reader.

This passage is truly thought-provoking and beautifully written. The idea that true hope, faith, and love can only be fully understood and appreciated through struggle and adversity is a powerful and meaningful one. The final sentence adds a sense of hope and positivity, suggesting that even in moments of doubt, there is still an opportunity for connection and growth. Overall, this passage is a powerful reminder of the resilience and strength of the human spirit.
Thank you Mike. I’ve tried to convey that state known as the ‘Dark Night of the Soul’, which St John of The Cross described, and which St Thérèse of Lisieux experienced. Not for everyone, especially when certainty is now the fashion in religion – as in being ‘born again’.
It is wonderful how you imply a deep meaning through a few lines. you have talked about hopes love and faith. They are very sensitive things that affect one’s life. Especially when it comes to love and faith, we don’t know if it’s pure until they’re tested. Especially when it comes to love and faith, we don’t know if it’s pure until they’re tested. If we can test, we can find out what the truth is in our understanding.
Well written poem and amazing take on Love and Faith. The two most powerful things in human life. The things wr lovr and hope for gives meaning to our lives. The struggle we go through just to prove the authenticicy of these two things makes us who we truly are. Thank you for sharing.
