Reading Time: 2 minutes
There are just two ways to eat here,
Friend, aside from those unappetizing
Fast food joints out by the freeway.
This is not a precious town. It's meant
To serve the needs of farmers, mostly,
And the Mexicans who work inside
The packing house. For breakfast,
You'll get bacon, eggs and toast,
Hash brown potatoes, too, or
Pancakes, hearty farmers' foods.
For lunch, fried chicken or a burger.
If you're feeling flush, you might
Decide to have some sort of steak,
A broiled one or chicken-fried, still
Crispy beneath gobs of gravy. Dinner's
Pretty much the same at either
Of this town's two diners, Marcia's
Or the Cozy Corner. Anglos here don't
Seem to mind, but, if you'd like to take
A break from undistinguished "comfort
Food," Reynaldo's place, just off of Main,
Serves Mexican, and it's delicious,
Spicy, and it's very cheap. Tacos
Go for almost nothing. If you choose
A chimichanga or burrito, guaranteed,
You'll have to take half of it home.
The rice and beans, all by themselves,
Are excellent, so there you go. You
Can't get truffles in this town, or sushi.
There's not anybody serving curry,
Ravioli, even decent fish and chips,
But I assure you, you'll survive. In
Fact, you may gain weight.
