"Human beings beget violence; whether with guns or knives; and the tragedy is with the young, already damaged." - D G Moody Before I was one, I was born from the bone; then when I was two, I was put inside a shoe. When I was three, The lightning forked inside me. Then when I was four, I was locked outside the door. When I was but five, They cut my soul with a knife. And when I was six, I was taught dirty tricks. Then when I was seven, I lost the key to heaven. So, when I was eight, I learnt how to hate. When I was just nine, I first became malign. Then when I was ten I said my last amen. And when I was eleven, the dark to me beckoned. So, when I was twelve. into cruelty I delved. Then when I was thirteen. I hid so’s not to be seen. And when I was fourteen they thought – just a teen. But when I was fifteen, I stepped aside the screen. And now that I’m sixteen, I will make them all scream; for now, I will have my fun, Cos I’ve brought to school, My Papa’s AR-15 Assault Gun! © D G Moody 2023
